“He had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.  Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” Genesis 28:12 -13, 16. NASB

“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.  He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.  All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.” John 16:13 – 15 NASB

Jacob’s ladder moments I call them! They all look very ordinary, the stones, the place, the people, the responsibilities. You think it’s just another year, just another day. Another church service, another blog, another write-up or meet up, just another text or call. Boom! Suddenly it hits you! God is in this place and I knew it not!

That text, that phone call, that chance video clip, that service, that hangout, that prayer meeting, that office meeting, the shopping trip or that weekend conference, those menial tasks. God was behind the scene, orchestrating the connection between you and heavenly supplies, downloading the next sequence of your upgrade!

Often, the way God sends answers and provide directions is couched in the ordinary and wrapped up in the everyday. Yet in that moment of the normal everyday, sublime divinity is at work! Jacob thought he was just going to sleep and then continue his journey to his uncle’s house in Haran.

Nothing was spectacular about the site or the stone he chose as a pillow to rest his head, however he was about to receive a life changing visit from the God of his fathers.

“Surely THE LORD IS IN THIS PLACE and I knew it not” Jacob exclaimed.  This new year, as we go about our business, let us ask the Father for grace and insight to recognise when God is present in a place, in a thing. Jesus, while speaking to his disciples of the promise of the Holy Spirit tells them, the Holy Spirit will take of what is mine and disclose it to you.

In other words, revelations of things that are yours will come via the Holy Spirit. We need discernment and an open heart not to take divine experiences as common!

Please pray with me; Heavenly Father, I thank you for Jacob’s ladder moments in my life, past, present and future. I also want to say, I am sorry I was never aware of some of those ladder moments; thus, missing opportunities to be awed by your orchestrated and spectacular comings and goings in my life.I thank you because while we were yet sinners you died for us – the most amazing, awesome and ultimate Jacob’s ladder moment ever, in history and eternity! Thank you, Holy Spirit, for what you do, taking what is of the Father and the Son and making it known to us.

Thank you, Lord, for ……………………. ladder moments. Amen.   (Insert your name)
