God stooped down to make man;

He said, “Let Us make man in Our image”

The Lord God formed man out of the dust of the ground and

Breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.

The Lord stooped down to re-make a woman.

“Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery”.

This nameless woman caught in a named act.

Her failure stood before her, her misdeed confronted her, her accusers all around her.

But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.

He straightened up and He spoke

The Word from the beginning spoke

The Word who was with God spoke

The Word who was God spoke.

Again, He stooped and wrote.

Her accusers melted away.

What He wrote we cannot say but what He said we cannot forget

Woman, where are they? Your accusers, the voices shouting your faults?

The eyewitness accounts? The prosecutor’s evidence?

The first time Lord God stooped

He made man out of the ground

The second time the Lord God stooped, He remade a woman.

From adulteress to forgiven woman

He gave her a new identity

He stooped and rose and gave life to her condemned by the Law.

He breathed into her situation – His Spirit, His words;

The words that I speak, they are spirit and life.

When a man speaks breath comes out of him.

Jesus stooped, He spoke, breath came out of Him

And the woman became a forgiven soul.
